| Entering Conflans by the "Porte de Savoie" is like stepping back in time. On the Roman road from Milan to Vienna via the Petit Saint Bernard pass, Conflans witnessed the passage of merchants, peddlers and pilgrims. Streets and alleyways remain the same as at the time of the Green Count, Amédée VI, count of Savoy.
Nowadays the people of Conflans and Albertville enjoy meeting up in the village square. Once shops or workshops, the houses and gardens all in bloom, now include cafés and restaurants, galleries and boutiques selling art and crafts.
The daily comings and goings of inhabitants and visitors criss-cross the Garella fountain square, accompanied by the rhythmic chimes of the bells perched up high all the better to be heard from the houses and surrounding fields, vineyards and woods. |
